I was asked to join a Bible study last night and the topic was simplicity and the first question was to list things that were the opposite os simplicity. What does your chaotic, crazy life make your feel like?
NOTHING LEFT TO GIVE
OVERWHELMED
ANXIETY
PANDEMONIUM
CHAOS
SCATTERED
EMPTY
TIRED
DESPERATE
HEARTACHE
EXHAUSTED
OUT OF CONTROL
RESTLESS
DEPRESSED
DEPLETED
STRETCHED TO THIN
BROKEN HEARTED
As I just went over this list again this morning I realize I can think of many times in my life where all of these played a part. I can also pin point these to a time where I wasn't seeking God first and I was making things too complicated when it came to my relationship with Christ or out right ignoring my relationship with Christ.
Your relationship with Christ doesn't need to be complicated, do you know what he wants? You, your time, prayer, time in his word.
Matthew 8:18-20 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave the orders to cross tothe other side of the lake. Then a teacher of the law came to him and said "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
It really it is that simple. We just need to follow him where he leads us, but to know where he is leading we must spend time with him so we know where to go. No it won't always be easy or comfortable and there may be sacrifice involved but the Joy his presence brings makes it all worth it. Discipleship is an investment that lasts an eternity, but I don't know any other investment that yields a more incredible reward than investing in your relationship with Christ.
REFLECTION:
In what ways can I simplify and declutter my life, so I can be closer to God? What is hindering me from the relationship I desire?
ACTION:
Pick one thing in my life I can declutter or simplify to make getting closer to God easier and a higher priority.
Examples:
Calendar
Closet/Attic
Car
Social Media
Electronics
