Pastor's sermon yesterday and our VBS was on The Armor of God and the message is so important I wanted to talk about it here as well.
Ephesians 6:10-18 speaks of the Armor of God and the mighty power of the Lord. We must put on the full armor of God each day so that we can take a stand against the devil's schemes. Yes, we've read the book and at the end Jesus wins the battle, but we are at war brothers and sisters and we must prepare for battle.
“Stand firm, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
In the Christian life we battle against rulers and authorities (the powerful evil forces of fallen angles headed by the devil, who is a vicious fighter). To withstand their attacks, we must depend on God’s strength and use every piece of his armor. The whole body of needs to be armed. Satan checks for weak spots and waits for them, and he knows them all! So, we must help each other, stand our ground, and resist the enemy until the end of the battle. Don’t try to face him unarmed.
REFLECTION: What part of the Armor is missing from your life?
PRAYER: Father, I put on the breastplate of righteousness and praise you that I am covered by you and ask you to protect my heart so I may not receive a fatal blow from the enemy today, I put on the shoes of peace, as I choose to stand firm on the foundation of Jesus Christ and the good news of His amazing grace. I take up the shield of faith this day in Christs’ name I walk in faith rather than by sight. I put on the helmet of salvation and pray you protect my thoughts and keep them on you so they do not lead me astray, help me reject any thought that is not of you or your will. Finally, I take up the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, please reveal to me every scheme of the enemy so I can wield your word against him with wisdom and insight.
Thank you, Jesus, for giving us everything we need to win my battles each day! In Jesus name I pray Amen
ACTION: Make quick brief prayers a habit throughout the day to respond to every situation so that when the enemy throws darts we throw them right back at him!
