Are you to pray for yourself?

Jesus needed to pray for Himself, so we definitely need to pray for ourselves. One of the things our prayer group has been struggling with is that we don't pray for ourselves. We pray for others all the time, but when it comes time to pray for ourselves we struggle. We don't want to be selfish, or take time away from others needs when we are praying. So we have been addressing this for a few weeks together as a team and for the last week have been holding each other accountable to make sure we are praying for ourselves daily by sending daily group texts to each other, it has been a wonderful reminder and pick me up.

I thought I would take time and address here some different ways we can pray for ourselves daily.

  1. Forgive my sins - Reality is we sin every day, so we can ask God for forgiveness on a daily basis to cleanse ourselves and be on Holy ground for the rest of the prayers we need to do.

  2. Fill me with your spirit - I need to feel God and the Holy Spirit it makes me feel closer to him and I read that when D.L. Moody was asked why he constantly sought a filling of the Spirit, he responded "Because I leak" and you know what that made so much sense to me when I read it and made me realize I need to ask for this daily because " I leak" too!

  3. Restore and strengthen me. Sometimes life can just suck and it creates a weariness in us and if we add ministry on top of it then you need to make sure you are asking for God to restore and strengthen you regularly so you can continue his work.

  4. Stifle Satan. Satan hates everything we do that has to do with God. He has lost an eternal war and if you are doing all you are supposed to in prayer, worship, fellowship, studying God's word and ministry then he's going to come after you. So you need to pray for your daily strength to resist him so that he will flee. Like Jesus, speak to him directly, demand he get behind you if necessary.

  5. Suppress unbelief and supply faith. Such battles must never be fought alone. Like the father of the demon possessed boy, I must ask Jesus, to "help me overcome my unbelief" (Mark 9:24). We need to ask the Lord to increase our faith daily.

These are just a few of things we can ask God for on a daily basis to help us stay strong and fight the battle against satan and his evil minions. If there is a way we can help you pray we would love to hear from you, please feel free to let us know.
